Swinging in New Orleans is a classic jazz showcase led by trombonist Stephen Walker, bringing together a group of top-tier local musicians to explore New Orleans' deep swing and traditional jazz roots.
Born and raised in the city, Walker came up through New Orleans' church, second line, and marching band traditions before studying at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. Mentored by Delfeayo Marsalis and touring internationally at a young age with Irvin Mayfield, he has developed a voice on the trombone that is both steeped in tradition and distinctly his own.
A versatile performer, Walker has shared the stage with Harry Connick Jr., Branford Marsalis, and Nicholas Payton, and is a current touring member of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band — a career that moves fluidly across traditional jazz, modern styles, and the broader New Orleans music continuum.
For this project, Walker leads a dynamic ensemble through a repertoire rooted in early jazz and swing, channeling the spirit of New Orleans' historic dance halls and neighborhood clubs while keeping the music fresh and alive in the present.
