Los Guiros is a New Orleans psychedelic cumbia band led by frontwoman and bandleader Corina Hernandez, a child of the world whose multicultural upbringing exposed her to the folkloric rhythms of Central and South America from an early age. Their sound blends traditional Colombian dance rhythms and the guitar and organ textures of Peruvian chicha with modern electronic elements, anchored by the sousaphone of Todd Burdick of Tuba Skinny, which gives the band a distinctly New Orleans feel. Formed in the wake of the pandemic, Los Guiros have moved quickly from a Saturn Bar residency to the stages of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and Bonnaroo, where they were the only Latin act on the 2024 bill.

    Victor Campbell’s Son del Sur

    September 19 @ 9:00 pm - September 20 @ 12:00 am
Good Measure 600 Carondelet St, New Orleans, LA, United States

Victor Campbell is a pianist from Camaguey, Cuba, whose playing moves fluently between Cuban jazz, timba, classical technique, and the New Orleans musical vocabulary he has spent years absorbing since moving to the city in 2019. He trained at Cuba's National School of the Arts and first came to New Orleans in 2012 through the Louis Armstrong Summer Jazz Camp, a visit that, in his own words, changed his life.

The New Orleans Jazz Museum describes him as moving effortlessly between a blues solo, a Cuban timba montuno, and a classical selection within the same set. Chucho Valdes, the legendary Cuban pianist, predicted in 2019 that Campbell would revolutionize Cuban jazz piano. He has since performed with Delfeayo Marsalis and the Uptown Jazz Orchestra, contributed to the soundtrack of the film Sinners, which went on to Oscar recognition, and become one of the most talked-about young musicians in the city.

    Mahmoud Chouki

    September 24 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Good Measure 600 Carondelet St, New Orleans, LA, United States

Mahmoud Chouki is a Moroccan-born master guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, and composer who has made New Orleans his home and his sounding board. His compositions draw on an unusually wide range of traditions, Andalusian and North African music, Levantine strings, Latin American rhythms, European classical training, and New Orleans jazz, woven together into something that feels like a genuine musical dialogue rather than a fusion exercise.

Chouki serves as music curator for the New Orleans Museum of Art, where his site-specific performance series Safar explored how music can speak across cultural divides. He composed the score for Ma Belle, Ma Beauty, which won at the Sundance Film Festival, and was named Best Emerging Artist by OffBeat Magazine. As artistic director of Rencontre Orient-Occident in Switzerland, he has built a career around bringing international musicians into conversation, with New Orleans, and with each other.

Sunpie Barnes and the Louisiana Sunspots

    September 26 @ 9:00 pm - September 27 @ 12:00 am
Good Measure 600 Carondelet St, New Orleans, LA, United States

Bruce "Sunpie" Barnes is one of New Orleans' most celebrated multi-instrumentalists and culture bearers, a master accordionist, harmonica player, and bandleader who has spent three decades developing what he calls "Afro-Louisiana" music, blending blues, zydeco, gospel, and Caribbean and African rhythms into a sound rooted in Louisiana but open to the world. Born in Benton, Arkansas, and raised on the blues harmonica tradition of his father, Barnes came to New Orleans by way of a career as an NFL player with the Kansas City Chiefs, and later as a 30-year National Park Service ranger at the Jean Lafitte National Park and the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park.

He is the Big Chief of the Northside Skull and Bones Gang, one of the oldest Black Carnival groups in the city, a second-line parading member of Black Men of Labor, and co-author of Talk That Music Talk, a celebrated book on New Orleans brass band tradition featuring over 300 of his own photographs. He has toured with Sting and Paul Simon, performed in over 50 countries, and released six albums with the Louisiana Sunspots.
